What You Will Do:
As a Utility in our Dining Services department, you play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. Reporting to the Sous Chef, you provide essential support to the culinary team by ensuring proper sanitation and cleanliness standards are met. Your attention to detail and efficiency contribute to the smooth operation of the kitchen, creating a safe and hygienic space.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform general cleaning tasks, including washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in kitchen and storage areas.
- Dispose of trash and recycling in accordance with sanitation guidelines.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of kitchen stations before and after service.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation surfaces, storage areas, and kitchen tools.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors regularly to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to assist in routine tasks as needed.
- Handle cleaning chemicals according to safety guidelines and regulations.
- Report any maintenance or repair needs to the Sous Chef promptly.
- Follow established safety and sanitation procedures at all times.
- Other Duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Utility position does not involve supervising or directing other associates. It operates under the direct supervision of the Sous Chef.
Why You Are Qualified:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or utility role is beneficial.
- Food safety and TABC certification.
Knowledge Skill and Abilities:
- Basic understanding of safety and sanitation practices in a kitchen environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with kitchen staff.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Familiarity with using commercial dishwashing equipment.
- Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely and appropriately.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for handling dishes, utensils, and cleaning tools.
- Visual acuity for assessing cleanliness and safety in the kitchen.
- Ability to work in a hot and busy kitchen environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing cleaning priorities.
- Adherence to safety and sanitation regulations.
- Proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Awareness of potential risks and proactive in implementing safety measures.
